Lukashenka assures that he stands on his own feet and is necessary for Russia 11:09, 09/04/2007
Consequences “a powerful blow” on Belarusian economy by Russia has been overcome by Belarus, stated Alyaksandr Lukashenka on April 8 during the Easter vigil in the Holy Spirit cathedral in Minsk.
“We are able to stand on our own feet again. We have done that. Believe me, in the first half of the year we will absolutely forget that it has happened,” told the Belarusian leader.
Belarus and Russia must not allow a split between the two fraternal peoples and states despite trade and economic disagreements, Lukashenka said.
“However, we must stay together forever no matter what they want on either side of the barricades,” Lukashenka said. “There are enough threats, and we have always responded to them together. We felt the threats in less than two months, and Russia understood that it would be very hard to fight them without Belarus.”
Lukashenko confirmed his full control over Belarus. “The president has a firm position and he is in control. Somebody wants him to stagger, but that won’t happen. God will support our fair wish for an honest and decent living,” he said.
As said by him, Belarus would defend his freedom and independence, “They want us to put up with that, to bend our neck, to go down on our knees. It wouldn’t happen ever. We are a proud, freedom-loving, independent nation living on our land. And it will continue forever. And we shall fight and uphold it,” stated Lukashenka, BelaPAN informs.
“As the head of the state, I do not set up a claim to anything, we have enough our own land,” A. Lukashenka said.
“A year ago in this church I promised that no matter how events develop, Belarusians would live in peaceful and stable country. And today we all have done everything so that no forces would destroy peace in our state, as it is in minds and hearts of people. As you, your children, your families need peace, stability and order”.
