Formal Reply Instead of Official Answer 12:40, 11/04/2007
As Alyaksandr Kazulin’s attorney Ihar Rynkevich said, recently the politician received and answer from the republican prosecutor’s office to initiate a criminal case for rigging presidential elections results in 2006.
As we have informed, on November 23, 2006 Alyaksandr Lukashenka stated at a press-conference for Ukrainian journalists that in reality 93.5% of Belarusian citizens voted for him during presidential elections. However on request of European observers he agreed to lower this quantity.
“Kazulin has been answered by an official in a rank equal to a chief of department, though it had been written in the statement that such an important problem should be considered by the prosecutor’s office leadership. The answer could be called a usual run-around. It was stated there that the prosecutor’s office hadn’t established facts allowing initiating a criminal action,” I. Rynkevich said to “Tovarisch” newspaper.
He noted that this formal reply is a violation of the law as such, as according to the procedure the prosecutor’s office is to issue an order answering to statements like this. I. Rynkevich has also sent similar complaint to the prosecutor’s office, but haven’t received an answer. “I would like to mention that I noted in my complaint that I am waiting for an official answer in line with the norms of the Belarusian law,” I. Rynkevich underlined.
