Opposition relies on the dialogue :: Charter'97 :: News

The first part of discussion in Vilnius of the strategy of the Belarusian democratic forces finished with sensation: the opposition intends to concentrate its forces on evolutionary transition of power to the democratic forces. That means that everybody participating in the discussion formed the opinion that the major issue was the dialogue with the authorities.

It is to be mentioned that yesterday a fortnight conference “Positive Alternative for Belarus and its Citizens” started in the capital of Lithuania. Former candidate for the presidency Alyaksandr Milinkevich, chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka, leader of the BNF Party Vintsuk Vyachorka, leader of the Party of Communists Belarusian Syargei Kalyakin arrived to Vilnius.

The leaders of opposition came to the conclusion that all forces of the civil society must be activated for maintaining the dialogue with the authorities; all opportunities of negotiations must be employed for changing the situation in the republic.

Head of the research laboratory ”Novak” Andrei Vardamatsky also told to the Deutsche velle about the work of the conference.

“In the first part of the conference conception of the strategy of further activities of the Belarusian democratic forces was discussed. After it was presented, the participants made their remarks, posed questions, made their statements and suggestions. So, there was a discussion on the topic “strategy of actions –basis assessments and basic approaches”, the head of the research laboratory ”Novak” reported.

According to Andrei Vardamatsky, the strategy means not confrontational but conversational approach to relations with the Belarusian authorities.

“The discussion resulted in admitting that it was something more advanced, that anything before. There remains something for further discussion but that can be taken as the starting point”, Vardamatsky reported.
