Belarusian MFA does not know whom to join
17:01, 13/04/2007

Deputy minister for foreign affairs of Belarus Vasyl Pugachou informed the deputies of lower chamber of the “parliament” of Belarus that last year the country managed to consolidate its international positions and internal potential despite pressure from the West. He also called the Non-Alignment Movement “the major channel of promoting its interests under conditions of restricting policy of the West”. The MFA declarations contradict yesterday’s declarations of Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

“We faced the massive pressure from the West. But the confrontation primarily resulted in the fact that Belarus hadn’t allowed to reject the political choice made by our people; hadn’t allowed to impose large-scale economic sanctions. Our country proved independent nature of the Belarusian foreign policy at the international arena”, considers the deputy minister for foreign affairs of Belarus.

The MFA of Belarus representative supported the initiative of the deputies of the permanent commission of the “ chamber of representatives” for foreign affairs and relations with the CIS on creation of the non-alignment parliamentary movement, BelTA reports.

The MFA declarations contradict yesterday’s declarations of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. Belarusian economy 55% oriented at the European Union moves us to “having normal relations with the West”, declared Alyaksandr Lukashenka at the press conference on Thursday in Minsk. ”Now we are trading with the EU more than with Russia, our interest are over there”, he declared.
