“March of Dissent” in Moscow Ended in Battle (Photo)

The opposition rally in Moscow has finished. Participants of “March of Dissent” gathered on Pushkin Square at 12 noon. The square, like closest streets were filled with riot policemen. When participants made attempts to spread out streamers or chant slogans, they were immediately detained and placed to police buses. Riot policemen used force. Garry Kasparov, Maria Gaidar, Ilya Yashin were arrested on Pushkin Square.

“Chamber” to cancel Allowances to Children and Students

Discounts on transport fees for students and medicines for small children have been taken for granted. Recently the Government has declared to the deputies that these allowances are excessive. The news was confirmed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka at his conference with Belarusian journalists. Belarusians are going to face cancellation of the allowances in the near future.

In Pushkin Square of Moscow, where a “March of Dissent” was to take place, hundreds of people are detained, including leaders of Russian opposition. Among the arrested are the leader of the United Civil Front Garry Kasparov, leaders of youth “Yabloko” Ilya Yashin and a youth movement “Da” Maria Gaidar.

The Belarusian first TV channel refused its direct line to Alyaksandr Milinkevich 25 April; the Interfax was reported at the TV channel. 6 April Alyaksandr Milinkevich appealed in written form to chairman of the national state TV company Alyaksandr Zimousky for the direct line for him and “representatives of experts and liquidators” 25 April at 6 p.m. for ”giving an independent assessment of the state bodies’ activities on overcoming consequences of the Chernobyl disaster”.

Alexander Lukashenko heads for Oman

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has left on an official visit to Oman, BelTA learnt in the presidential press service. In Muscat, the capital of Oman, Alexander Lukashenko will meet with Sultan Qaboos Bin Said to discuss issues on boosting bilateral cooperation, first of all, in the trade-economic sphere. The Belarusian president wil also meet with the deputy prime minister of Oman. The negotiations are planned to result in agreements on avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion and agreements between chambers of commerce and industry of Belarus and Oman.

President of Belarus to arrive in India on a two-day visit

President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko is paying a state visit to India from April 15-17, 2007. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation consisting of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Martynov; Minister of Interior, Vladimir Naumov; Minister of Industry, Anatoly Rusetsky; Minister of Justice, Viktor Golovanov; Minister of Taxation, Ms. Anna Deiko; Chairman of State Military & Industrial Committee, Nikolai Azamatov; Chairman of State Committee for Science & Technology, Vladimir Matyushkov and Victor Lukashenko, National Security Advisor, said an official release issued here Friday.

Belorusneft concludes annual contract with Polish Gas

Supreme Court Dismissed Union of Left Parties’ Complaint

The Supreme Court of Belarus has dismissed a complaint of the Union of Left Parties to the denial of Justice Ministry to grant the Union state registration. The Central Council of the Union of Left Parties asked the court to invalidate illegal actions of Justice Ministry and oblige it to perform state registration.

German embassy recovers stolen plaque commemorating Bremen Jews

Political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin doesn’t receive letters in prison

A former candidate for presidency, a leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic party (Hramada) Alyaksandr Kazulin states that “scorched-earth tactics is used against him methodically and consistently”. This statement has been made by him on April 13 during the meeting with his laywer Ihar Rynkevich. At the meeting with his attorney A. Kazulin noted that even registered letters with a confirmation receipt are not delivered to him sometimes now.
