11:50, 14/04/2007

A former candidate for presidency, a leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic party (Hramada) Alyaksandr Kazulin states that “scorched-earth tactics is used against him methodically and consistently”. This statement has been made by him on April 13 during the meeting with his laywer Ihar Rynkevich. At the meeting with his attorney A. Kazulin noted that even registered letters with a confirmation receipt are not delivered to him sometimes now.

“Prison censorship tears off many pages form the letters delivered to him. And in general, the avalanche of letters has reduced. Kazulin believes that it is connected with disenchantment of the society in opposition,” I. Rynkevich said.

As said by the lawyer, A. Kazulin is still having a dietary regime “5B”. “But you should understand what kind of a regime it is. According to it for Kazulin, as he is a vegetarian, three additional eggs a week and a litre of milk a day are given. Kazulin has a right to buy several kinds of food in the shop in prison, mainly fruits,” I. Rynkevich said.

As said by the lawyer, A. Kazulin’s weight in 87 kilograms now. “It means that he had gained only one kilogram during this dietary regime,” I. Rynkevich said.

As we have informed, Alyaksandr Kazulin is sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment for organizing a mass protest rally on March 25, 2006. In last autumn he held a 53-days hungers strike with a demand to bring up Belarusian issue in the Security Council of the UN.
