Minsk to host arms expo MILEX 2007 on May 22-25 :: Charter'97 :: News

An international arms and materiel expo MILEX 2007 will take place in Minsk on May 22-25, first deputy chairman of the State Defence Industry Committee of Belarus Piotr Rogozhevskiy told a press conference yesterday.

The expo is supposed to demonstrate products of defence industries and to assist with establishing ties between producers and customers of defence products. Contracts for arms upgrade are expected to be signed.

Piotr Rogozhevskiy noted, the expo gets more and more popular every year. In 2003 the expo gathered around 10,000 visitors and 4,000 professionals, in 2005 — about 15,000 visitors and 5,000 professionals from various parts of the globe.

Over 110 producers, design bureaus, research institutes, higher educational establishments and other institutions of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and other countries have confirmed their intention to partake in the expo.

MILEX 2007 is organised by the national expo centre BelExpo of the Belarusian president’s Property Management Directorate, the State Defence Industry Committee and the Belarusian defence ministry. BelTechExport, Belarus’ largest exporter of arms and materiel, missiles and ammunition, is the primary sponsor of the expo.
