Supreme Court Dismissed Union of Left Parties’ Complaint 12:43, 14/04/2007
The Supreme Court of Belarus has dismissed a complaint of the Union of Left Parties to the denial of Justice Ministry to grant the Union state registration. The Central Council of the Union of Left Parties asked the court to invalidate illegal actions of Justice Ministry and oblige it to perform state registration.
As we have informed, in January 2007 Justice Ministry received documents for registration of the Union of Left parties. Its founders were the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) and the Belarusian Party of Women “Nadzeja”, the Party of Communists of Belarus. The founding congress of the Union of Left Parties took place outside Belarus, in the city of Chernihiv, Ukraine. According to Justice Ministry, activities of political parties registered in Belarus can take place only on the territory of Belarus.
Besides, Justice Ministry pointed at a number of violations of the order of registration and holding the founding congress, in particular, at the fact that representatives of political parties hadn’t been elected to the conference, but appointed.
The Supreme Court has found some of Justice Ministry arguments well-grounded.
