Several Actions of Solidarity with Belarus Held in Moscow (Photo) :: Charter'97 :: News

In April 16, 2007 Belarusian and Russian citizens staged a protest action in the center of Moscow. The rally was dedicated to the Day of Solidarity with political prisoners and the repressed of Belarus. Participants join in a moment of silence. They remembered abducted politicians and expressed their protest against continuing acts of violence against civil society in Belarus in general.

One of the organizers of the rally, Andrei Novikov, stays: “It is very pleasant for me that people have supported the initiative. They gathered near the Belarusian Embassy to express their opinion concerning the developments in this country. We have prepared some demands to the authorities of Belarus, including release of all political prisoners, open investigation of cases of the disappeared politicians and a journalist”.

After the picket citizens of Belarus and Russia gathered near the monument of Yanka Kupala in Moscow to pay tribute to the memory of the great Belarusian and lay flowers. Besides, organizers of the rally plan to hold wide screening of the documentary by Yury Khaschavatski “Ploshcha” (“The Square”) in Moscow.
