Andrei Klimau Does Not Take Part Investigatory actions 18:31, 19/04/2007 On April 19 Tatsyana Klimava brought a parcel to prison for her husband, a former deputy Andrei Klimau. More than 2 weeks ago he was arrested on charges relating calls to overthrow the regime. The parcel’s weigh is 15 kilograms, mostly food and clothes. “It is forbidden to bring food and clothes,” Tatsiana said. It is clear from Andrei’s letters that he still refuses to participate in investigator actions. He keeps silent during interrogations. Tatsyana Klimava does not know much about investigation: “He has described me one funny episode, when investigator Hadun came to him. Showing “Belgazeta” he said that it was written there that Andrei would not be able to get out of a scrape. It seems to me that it vividly shows that a pressure is applied to him through the newspaper,” the woman said. Minsk prosecutor’s office investigator Anatol Hadun who is in charge of Klimau’s case denies comments. Earlier the investigator said that investigation of the case “goes to plan”. Tatsyana Klimava says that she receives letters from her husband every day and writes him answers. He does not complain about conditions. He writes there is a TV set in the ward, but it is not functioning well. It shows only a few state channels. Thus, Andrei could feel himself in the shoes of a usual citizen of Belarus who is brainwashed. Andrei Klimau does not get newspapers yet, as one can subscribe in the beginning of a month. In May he will receive newspapers with the help of his wife: “I have decided to take part in an “honourable work” of brainwashing and subscribed him for “Sovetskaya Belorussia”, in addition to “Izvestia”, “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, “BelGazeta”, “Belorusskiy Rynok”. Unfortunately, it is not possible to subscribe him for “Narodnaya Volya”, “Nasha Niva” and “Svobodnye Novosti”, as they hadn’t been included into the catalogue of subscription,” Klimau’s wife said. As we have informed, the politician faces up to three years of imprisonment for calls for overthrow of power. Earlier Klimau, an active Lukashenka’s opponent, served more than 4 years of imprisonment on economic charges, and 15 months of corrective labour for organizing a street protest rally. In total the politician has spent 5.5 years in prison.
