Flash mob to support Andrei Klimau was held in Minsk (Photo)
17:43, 20/04/2007

20 April flash mob to support Andrei Klimau was held in Minsk. At 10.15 a.m. around a dozen of young people gathered in Yakub Kolas Square and marched to the “Impuls” shopping center where they stood up in chain carrying portraits of the arrested policymaker. After 10 minutes standing the action participants started distributing leaflets with Klimau’s biography among the passers-by.

It was reported in the leaflets that Klimau was the deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the 13th
Convocation and was a member of the parliamentary commission established for “investigating the crimes committed by higher authorities” .It was also reported about previous convictions of Klimau, for example, for organizing an unsanctioned street action of protest in 2005.

“It was not the only action of today’, one of the flash mob organizers who asked not to tell his name reported to the BelaPAN. ”We are going to hold several similar actions in other city areas. We must support Klimau at least in this form because he has been persecuted for expressing his viewpoint at the present-day authorities of Belarus. His arrest is farfetched and the charges are exclusively political”.

None of the action participants was arrested.

It is to be mentioned that Klimau was arrested in Minsk 3 April. He is charged of the crime stipulated by Part 3 of Clause 361 of the Criminal code of Belarus, i.e., of calls for overthrowing or changing if the constitutional order of the Republic of Belarus. From three to five years in prison sentence threatens him. He will be kept in the isolation ward in Valadarsky Street in Minsk until the trial.
