“Charnobylski Shlyakh” Applicants Minsk City Executive Committee
12:33, 20/04/2007

The organising committee of “Charnobylski Shlyakh” rally is set to challenge the decision of Minsk city executive committee. The applicants planned to start the rally on April 26 at 6 p.m. on Yakub Kolas Square. Yesterday Minsk authorities have come to a different decision. After the court decision it would be clear where the rally on April 26 would take place.

This year Minsk city executive committee has sanctioned holding “Charnobylski Shlyakh” from the Academy of Science to Bangalore Square. On April 26 people would gather near the Academy of Science at 6 p.m. After that they would march along Surhanau Street towards the Part of Nations’ Friendship.

At the meeting applicants were represented by Alyaksei Yanukevich and Yuras Zyankovich (the Belarusian Popular Front Party), Valyantsina Palevikova (the United Civil party), and Anatol Sidarevich (the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada). City authorities were represented by the city executive committee official Tamilchyk, and tow policemen, lieutenant colonel Melnik and major Stanilevich. They offered the participants to sign papers that they had been warned and that no illegal symbols would be used during the rally. All applicants refused to sign these documents, Nasha Niva informs.

Applicants believe that by such decision Minsk city executive committee has violated Article No.6 of Law on Mass rallies, as thee decision had been reached without approval the applicant.
