Another Act of Vandalism in Kurapaty (Photo)
12:52, 23/04/2007

Unknown criminals have broken six crosses and damaged a few in Kurapaty memorial area. Another act of vandalism has been witnessed by participants of a collective work, “talaka”, held every Saturday by members of the Conservative Christian party Belarusian Popular Front, Radio Svaboda informs.

Broken, overturned and crosses were noticed by Uladzimer Yukho, who was one of the organizers of he talaka.

“Today I have come to Kurapaty and saw horrible things happened over the previous days. I was there in Thursday, and everything was all right. And today I see broken crosses. Four crosses are broken on the alley here. And crosses near the field around Kurapaty are broken. Some crosses are loosened. Criminals wanted to broke them, but crosses were strong. It looks like an intentional act, as these acts of vandalism are taking place in Kurapaty every year. And now we would have some work to do. We’ll go and bring some material to repair the crosses,” Uladzimer Yukho said.

Unknown vandals have destructed memorials and crosses in Kurapaty for dozens times. Clinton’s bench has been attacked 11 times since its construction in 1994. In this connection American Embassy in Belarus made a special statement. However policemen have found no criminals.
