Die Presse: Lukashenka’s regime is at the brink of crash 13:00, 23/04/2007 Previously Belarus was a poor country, Die Presser remarks. But after the price raise for gas imported from Russia which the Russian Government succeeded early this year the only way left for Belarus is a direct way to economic and political bankruptcy. President of Russia Vladimir Putin personally issued an invoice to Lukashenka. The Russian gas deliveries for preferential prices were equal to annual subsidies to the amount of USD 5 billion 800 million thus comprising 41% of the Belarusian budget. This way Belarus got over USD50 billion from Russia over the last years. At the Die Presse pages Mikhail Marinich called both the European Union and Russia for joint development of the strategy making Belarus enter the way to its democratization.
