European Commission’s Representation to Open in Minsk 10:11, 25/04/2007
Belarus has agreed for opening a represe4ntation of the European Commission in Minsk. The BelaPAN has been informed about that in the office of Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy.
“We have received a decision of Belarusian foreign ministry concerning our request in 2005,” told the press-secretary of the office Christine Hohmann. “Belarusian authorities have adopted a favourable decision on opening a representation in Minsk”.
As said by Christine Hohmann, the next step would be discussion of the agreement between Minsk and Brussels on conditions of opening a representation of the European Commission.
As we have informed, a representation of the European Commission in Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus is situated in Kyiv. It is headed by Ambassador Ian Boag.
According to European officials, a representation in Minsk is necessary for effective cooperation running and coordination of work with the diplomatic missions existing in the country.
