Party Leaders attended Chernobyl Area
11:48, 25/04/2007

24 April chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka and chairman of the Party of Communists Belarusian Syargei Kalyakin attended the districts of the Gomel region that mostly suffered from the Chernobyl disaster.

According to the BelaPAN chairman of the Gomel branch of the public association “Law Initiative” Leanid Sudalenka, policymakers from Minsk and local activists of the democratic movement attended Bragin, where they laid writhes and flowers on the memorial to the perished liquidator-fireman Vasil Ignatenka and visited the local museum exposition. In the vacated Sabali village A.Lyabedzka and S. Kalyakin met the local self-inhabitants. All in all, 30 families live there.

The leaders of the oppositional parties also went to Hoiniki and presented a computer to a local inhabitant Vital Shleg who was born disabled. According to the teenager’s mother, his disease was the consequence of the Chernobyl disaster. The policymakers’ present was a great surprise to the Shlegs. “Such present is very essential to my son. We couldn’t afford such thing because I have to look after my son and I don’t work for this reason. We are very grateful for your attention and help”, Svyatlana Shleg said.

A.Lyabedzka and S. Kalyakin also planned visiting kindergartens in the Bragin district and giving presents to the children. But local authorities impeded the visit.
