Meanwhile, as the organizing committee representatives remarked at the press conference, yesterday a claim on the actions of the Minsk city executive committee which had illegally turned the action applicants down for farfetched reasons was lodged to the Maskousky district court of the capital. Simultaneously it was offered to suspend the resolution the Minsk city executive committee until the court hearing. Moreover, the negotiations with the city militia regarding people marching over the thoroughfere from the Academy of Sciences along Surganau Street because the pavements are under repair there.
Leader of the BNF Party Vintsuk Vyachorka reported that among the initiatives of the People’s Front is support to sick children who suffered from the Chernobyl disaster. “We have no moral right to limit our activities with 26 April, Day the Chernobyl disaster. The assistance must be permanent”, he declared. Vintsuk Vyachorka told about his attending the juvenile oncology department in Baraulyani, about needs of the children undergoing medical treatment at the department and about needs of their parents. He also dwelt on the envisaged assistance to the children who permanently live in the contaminated area.
Chairman of the organizing committee of the Chernobyl Way correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences Ivan Nikitchenka spoke in detail on the plans of the Belarusian government for construction of the atomic power station in our country. ”Those twenty percent of the electric power which it is envisaged to receive at the station can be received differently”, he declared. First of all through update technologies .In the agricultural sector, only, we can save more electric power that can be given by the atomic power station.
Ivan Nikitchenka expressed his concern about the absence of the technical and economic substantiation and the preparatory works, which are conducted without broad discussion and international expertise. At least the public referendum is to take place and the decision must be taken on the basis of its results. Among other negative factors Ivan Nikitchenka stressed the problem of personnel training which is to take at least 10 years, the problem of lack of raw materials, which are to be purchased also from Russia. That is why the major argument of the government in favor of the atomic power station construction, i.e., “independence from Russian power resources” does not work .As Ivan Nikitchenka stressed, the issue of the atomic power station construction is to become of primary importance this year.
