Lukashenka to develop the Chernobyl Area
17:42, 26/04/2007

A new stage of Chernobyl problems settlement has started in Belarus: transfer from rehabilitation of the affected territories to their development. That was announced by A.Lukashenka at the meeting-requiem in Bykhau, dedicated to the 21st anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.

A.Lukashenka considers it necessary to pay special attention to economic restoration and stable development of the affected territories. The head of the state explained that he meant creation of new jobs and favorable conditions for entrepreneurship. “It is preferential taxation and crediting, opening of new economic areas and other measures”, he said.

However, Belarus preserves all required measures for radiation protection, the Belarusian ruler stressed. It is the State Program on Overcoming the Chernobyl Disaster Consequences for 2006-2010 that is aimed at the above-mentioned. It is envisaged to provide USD1.5 billion for the program implementation. The major funds are to be directed to the Gomel and Magiliou regions development.

A.Lukashenka considers the decision on concentration of financial means directed to overcoming of the Chernobyl disaster consequences to be correct.

“I am sure that the money won’t be wasted. The concentration of resources and not their dissipation are the major issue of today”, he declared.

According to A.Lukashenka ”the funds invested were always needed and will be needed”. He considers that previously” the money was pushed to any place imaginable” .Today, A.Lukashenka continued, the funds are centralized and concentrated and directed to primary needs –roads, water –and gas pipelines, water deferrization stations construction, clear foodstuffs production”.
