Sodal who is going to celebrate his 70 years anniversary and his spouse were also beaten near Bangalor Square when they were coming back home after the action.
In his interview with the BelaPAN U.Sodal told that the militiamen acted “unexpectedly and insolently”. ”I could have run aside but the dignity didn’t allow to do that. Why in my home country after surviving the years of the nazi occupation of Belarus must I run away leaving my young compatriots in disaster?” U. Sodal spoke indignantly.
The scientist stressed that the militia’s attack hurt him deeply. “When it happened I remembered the line from the Belarusian hymn “We, Belarusians are peaceful people” and, here you are, these peaceful people when coming back home encountered a strange aggression. If the authorities wanted to disperse the action they should have done it at the beginning but not deride at the people coming back home”, U. Sodal said.
Nevertheless he is not going to lodge the claim on the militia actions because he considers it senseless.
