Leanid Zayika: Business public tends toward new economic policy :: Charter'97 :: News

Among the responses of Belarus to the current inside and outside challenges is “new economic policy” trend, director of the “ Strategy” analytical center Leanid Zayika considers. He expressed his opinion at the round- table meeting “Business of Belarus in the Context of New Economic Policy”, the BelaPAN reports.

Among today’s challenges and issues the expert primarily stressed the post- energy- resources- price-hike shock, financial stability of enterprises, exchange rate and inflation, compatibility of enterprises and their output, quick and professional feedback, new action logics.

Among the responses to economic challenges the expert mentioned 5 options. “The first option is economic mobilization as it was committed in the period of “military communism”, Leanid Zayika said. The second option is the “fire brigade” activities “(in our history it is the example of Vyachaslau Kebich and Syargei Ling’s activities)”. The option of “slowly progressing adaptation” is also possible. ”In this case everybody pretends that something happens in the economy, it responds to challenges, but it responds to external price factors only by decreasing production costs through decreasing output volumes, Leanid Zayika said. In this case the qualitative changes are hardly probable”. Another response according to him is “a presales preparation of Belarus”. He thinks that is will start with the oil refineries. “Then the turn of dairy and meat producing complexes will come as they are national products”, the director of analytical center remarked.

“The business public tends towards the fifth option, i.e., the new economic policy”. They suggest active restructuring of the economy, innovation development, promotion of new jobs creation, entrepreneurship and family business development, labor services export and national projects implementation”. Leanid Zayika said.
