Washington is disappointed with the UNO resolution on Belarus
13:59, 20/06/2007

The United States is disappointed with the new standards adopted by the UN Human Rights Council because they suffer “serious defects”, official representative of the U.S. Department of State Sean McCormack declared.

He accused that body of “almost exclusive concentration of its attention” on the USA’s close ally - Israel.

Yesterday the UN Human Rights Council announced its decision to stop sending its speakers to Belarus and Cuba for conducting special investigations. This organization enumerated the criteria for determining the necessity of special investigation of cases of human rights violation in this or that country. Finally 10 countries were named in which the above-mentioned actions are to be taken but Belarus and Cuba were not on that list.

In June 2006 the UN Human Rights Council replaced the UN Commission on human rights. The USA refused to become a member of this council considering that the developing countries dominate in that body.
