The Movement “For Freedom” (“Za svobodu”) calls upon the dwellers of Grodna, who are angered with the demolition of the city’s historic part executed by the powers, to take part in a new action “What will happen to your city? Ask the deputy!”
Grodna activists of the Movement “For Freedom” have sent information on demolition of the historic part of Grodna together with certain proposals of well-known people on how to improve the situation, to all the deputies of the municipal and regional councils of Grodna. The Movement’s members have also distributed the resolution of the public round table “Who benefits from the demolition of Grodno?” assisted by approximately 50 historians, architects, local lore specialists, university instructors, which was held on June 21 in Grodna.
The Movement “For Freedom” urges to apply to the Grodna deputies demanding explanation for the demolition of the historic part of the city as well as insisting on public’s urgent interference within the municipal powers’ actions.
“What tools for defense do Belarusian citizens have? If you live in our city or region, you can apply to your deputy or ask him directly, what he has done to preserve Grodna’s historic heritage. You can pose a direct question: what do powers plan for my house, street, for my district? Officials and deputies are obliged to answer this question. If they don’t, one can apply to the court. At the worst, the so called “people’s elected representative” must keep in mind that he was put there to guard Grodna dwellers’ interests,” - is said the statement of the Movement “For Freedom”.
