Has Kazulin been beaten up by an officer?
17:42, 04/07/2007

Last Friday a deputy of the 2nd convocation of the “chamber of representatives” and a former prisoner of “Vitsba-3” Syarhei Skrabets stated that he met two prisoners who had been released from Vitsebsk colony recently. They were serving sentence in the 1st detachment together with Alyaksandr Kazulin.

“They asked not to reveal their manes,” Syarhei Skrabets told to Narodnaya Volya. “They said that before their release a deputy head of the colony on ideology gave strict order to them to run a mile from me. But I met with them. They said that there was a fight in the colony. Many inmates were witnesses of the fight. Kazulin, who is very weak after the long hunger strike, was attacked by an officer of Internal Affairs Ministry, and started beating him. Prisoners managed to drag the officer away from Kazulin. Alyaksandr Kazulin demanded the administration of the colony to straighten out the situation. But the whole thing has been declared off.

“Narodnaya Volya” reached the administration of “vitsba-3’ on the phone.

“What fight do you mean?” asked the deputy head of the colony Ruslan Pryjmak. His comments were short.

“This incident hasn’t taken place, it is impossible,” Ruslan Pryjmak said. As said by him, Kazulin feels like himself. His health condition is satisfactory, and statements that it had been planned to send Kazulin to Republican prison hospital for a medical check-up are untrue.

“Who wanted to send him there? It’s untrue,” Pryjmak said. “It’s another PR action. All necessary examinations are held in the colony. Kazulin submits all necessary tests; there are no abnormalities in his tests”.

If everything is so well the way deputy head of the colony says, the question is why an independent doctor, a representative of the International Red Cross Organization, is not allowed to visit Kazulin. German Embassy to Minsk has many times offered that. But no permission has been received.

It is likely that in a little while Kazulin himself is to tell about the incident in the colony Skrabets had been told by former prisoners. This week Kazulin is to be visited in the colony by his lawyer Dzmitry Harachka.

“A meeting with the lawyer had been planned for the last week,” Volha Kazulina, a daughter of the former presidential candidate told to “Narodnaya volya”. “But for some reason the administration of the colony hadn’t permitted that meeting. We were told that if we want a scandal, let the lawyer arrive. We decided this meeting could take place after holidays. I hope that this week father would determine the date of our long-term meeting as well. We all really miss him. You know, father was penalized, and we were deprived of a short-term meeting. Now me, our mother and Yulia (Kazulin’s younger daughter) are looking forward to this meeting.
