Opposition Invited to PA OSCE Session 11:52, 04/07/2007
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe has invited co-chairmen of the Political Council of the united democratic forces to take part in the annual session o the Parliamentary Assembly which is to take place in Kyiv in July 5-9. Vintsuk Vyachorka, Syarhei Kalyakin, Anatol Lyabedzka, Anatol Lyaukovich and Alyaksandr Milinkevich have received invitations to take part in the session of a General Committee on General Affairs and Security on July 6. Issues of democratization of Belarus will be discussed there.
Vintsuk Vyachorka, who is responsible for foreign relations of the Political Council, finds PA OSCE dealing with the Belarusian problem logical.
“At the first committee of the Parliamentary Assembly dedicated to the politics and security, two most important issues are energy security of Europe and situation in Belarus. The resolution that has been prepared is a constituent part of Kyiv Declaration. Mr Lorentzen (Denmark) has made a draft resolution and a statement on Belarus. He visited Belarus together with Uta Zapf in March this year. It has been declared that for the last two election campaigns commitments Lukashenka signed in Istanbul in 2000 were not fulfilled. The declaration demands Belarus to accept the EU’s demands and requirements and fulfill all conditions of democratization,” the politician said to Polish Radio.
Another seminar of the PA OSCE Working Group and “chamber of representatives” of Belarus dedicated to freedom of speech is planned for autumn.
