Consideration of draft resolution on Belarus started in Kyiv
16:46, 06/07/2007

Today morning a draft resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE “Situation in Belarus” has started to be discussed by Political affairs and security committee. A member of the PA OSCE Working group on Belarus from Danish parliament Kristian Pihl Lorenzon is to make a report.

“The general message of the document is that the well-known offers of the European Union for Belarus are welcomed. It is a well-balanced resolution. It keeps to the general strategy concerning Belarus which is followed by the international structures,” told the co-chairman of the Political council of the democratic forces Anatol Lyabedzka.

When the text of the resolution would be adopted by the first committee of the Assembly, and by two more committees, then it would be offered for general vote of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE.

The summer PA OSCE session has started in Kyiv yesterday, and is to finish on Monday, July 9.

A round table discussion on Belarus is planned for July 7. It is to be held by the head of the Working group on Belarus of the PA OSCE, Uta Zapf.

Three subjects from Belarus have been invited for Belarusian events: the official delegation of the “national assembly” to the PA OSCE, four co-chairmen of the Political council of the united democratic forces, and a former candidate for presidency in Belarus, Alyaksandr Milinkevich.
