Monument to Pope John Paul II Unveiled in Valozhyn (Photo) 12:50, 09/07/2007
On July 7in the framework of traditional Days of Polish culture in Minsk region a solemn opening of a monument to Pope John Paul II took place in the town of Valozhyn. A monument of more than 2 metres was placed in the historical center of the city, near the Roman Catholic Church of St. Joseph, a monument of 19th century Classicism.
According to reports of the local regional executive committee, the statue was created by Polish and Italian sculptors. It was brought to Belarus from Poland. The figure was created from fiberglass and covered by bronze paint. The pontific blesses people, BelaPAN informs.
The monument to John Paul II has been put up on the initiative of the Catholic community of Valozhyn district and with support of the local authorities, Polish Embassy, and Polish Senate and Sejm.
