To learn the truth about repressions
14:37, 09/07/2007

Gomel activists of the organization committee for the party “Belarusian Christian Democracy” applied to chairperson of the Gomel municipal executive committee Aliaksandar Yakabson and chief of the Gomel region KGB administration Ivan Korzh demanding the information on the results of the excavations of mass burials. Explorers discovered remains of 70 shot people in a forest close to the city, about two weeks ago.

“We addressed the village administration, district executive committee, prosecutor’s office, - the activists emphasized in the interview to BelaPAN. - We asked for a reply to our question - who had been shot down in the forest? In accordance with the law the state institutions are obliged to respond, and they did - with nearly identical senseless papers. They said that an expert commission was working and that everything was fine, they told us not to worry. In our view it indicates that the powers want to conceal the truth. The officials assure even now that it has nothing to do with repressions; these are remains of volunteer corpse’s soldiers shot down by fascists. Although we have absolutely different evidences.”

The Christian Democrats touched upon similar points in their statements addressed to I.Korzh and A.Yakabson. The activists assured the officials that in case more formal replies come from the executive committee and KGB, they would request for authorization for a picket against the situation with the concealed information about mass burials near Gomel.
