Cannot get registration, but to stand trial
17:16, 10/07/2007

Justice department of Minsk city executive committee has denied registration to Minsk city public organization Young Front. It has been stated at a press-conference in Minsk by one of the founders of the organization, Barys Haretski July 10. At the moment two activists of the organization, Yaraslau Hryshchenya and Ivan Shyla, are charged under Article 193 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (activities on behalf of an unregistered organization). The leader of the Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich has been sentenced to a year and a half of imprisonment in a minimum-security correctional labor facility, similarly for “activities on behalf of an unregistered organization”.

It is the second denial of the justice department of Minsk city executive committee. As we have informed, earlier justice department of Minsk city executive committee denied registration of a public association to young people, referring to inconsistence of the statute of the public organization. According to the statute, the supreme governing body of the organization is the central council, while the justice department has received documents from a statutory meeting.

“We corrected all defects justice department indicated. However, today we have been told that registration of the organization had been denied to us. Today or tomorrow we shall receive a written answer about registration denial, and challenge this decision in the court,: Barys Haretski said.

As the young activist believes, actions of the justice department have nothing in common with the law. “We think so because the justice department of Minsk city executive committee, after finding some mistakes, should have warned us in the first denial to register the organization. They haven’t done that,” Barys Haretski said.

As said by him, is would be an “absolutely winning” trial for the organization which is being created.
