Milinkevich gave interview to Le Mond along with Lukashenka 11:50, 11/07/2007
One of the leaders of the democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich gave his interview to the” Le Mond” newspaper. It is to be mentioned that his first foreign visit to France was in December 2006 when he was the single Belarusian presidential candidate. Mr.Milinkevich met with Nicolas Sarkozy, the then Minister for Internal Affairs of France who is currently the President of France.
As far as the prospects of the relationship between France and Belarus are concerned Alyaksandr Milinkevich declared the following:
-I think that the European Union has got the consolidated standpoint and the 12 conditions put forward by the European Commission have been totally observed. And if the current authorities of Belarus are really eager to cooperate with Europe those conditions have to be truly observed. These conditions are compulsory for everyone who cooperates with the EU. The European Union was founded on the basis of democracy, freedom of personality and wishes those principles to be implemented in other countries I don’t think that France, especially currently headed by Nicolas Sarkozy, is going to pursue a specific policy regarding Belarus.
Yesterday the Le Mond also interviewed Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
When answering the question if the current interview of Lukashenka could become the sign of certain changes Mr.Milinkevich remarked:
I would sincerely wish the present authorities of Belarus to follow the route of democratic reforms.
