Supolnast to be liquidated :: Charter'97 :: News

The might-be closing endangers another democratic public organization which has still remained registered, that is the Minsk city public union ”Tsentr Supolnast”. The trial is to be held on 13 July.

The Minsk city court handed a copy of the application of the city department of justice claiming the judgment on liquidation of the Tsentr Supolnast to chairman of the council of the organization Syargey Matskevich. According to head of the department of justice Mikalai Zyalionka who signed the claim the organization didn’t respond to messages and warnings and its council comprised the person without the Minsk residential permit and ”for a long time …it has been conducting activities with participation of unregistered public organizations from the Assembly of Non-Governmental Public Organizations”.

Syargey Matskevich considers that ”the true reason is not the formal absence of responses to the missives which, actually speaking, we haven’t received but the intention to liquidate all democratic organizations and to exert pressure on their active members. But we shall be confronting the closing of our organization”.

The Tsentr Supolnast was established in 1995 for developing the civil society in our country. Among its founders are such public and cultural figures and policymakers as Vintsuk Vyachorka, Ales Byalyatsky, Henadz Saganovich and others. The organization has implemented many educational, scientific, cultural and youth programs. It also participated in nomination of independent watchers during electoral campaigns, the “Vyasna” rights defending center declared.
