Another try to fly into the blue
10:37, 13/07/2007

Belarus and Russia signed the contract on creation of the Belarusian space complex. It is to be much more flexible than the last year broken BelKA (Belarusian space apparatus) and almost two times lighter. For signing the contract the Belarusian party was represented by first deputy chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Piotr Vityaz, and the Russian party-by director of the All-Russian Scientific and Research Institute of electrical mechanics Leonid Makridenko.

As it was declared by chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich before signing the contract, all the work on creation of the Belarusian space complex is to be carried out as stipulated by the edict of Alyksandr Lukashenka “On Development of Belarusian Space Industry’ of 14 June this year.

“It is important that the space system in general is to be set up: the space device, i.e., the national center for information receiving and processing is to be a completely independent system”, remarked Mikhail Myasnikovich. According to him, the Belarusian space device is to be much more flexible than the BelKA and almost two times lighter and correspond to all international standards. “It is supposed that in the near future the problem of getting information about space devices existing in Russia by the state bodies of Belarus will be solved”.

According to the NAS head, there is no device of this rank in Russia. ”The development of a similar space satellite ”Konopus” is foreseen in the federal program of the Russian Federation. Thus we have the possibility to establish a full-value space group”, he said to the Interfax.
