Pickets against repeal of benefits :: Charter'97 :: News

On July 12 the head of Homel regional branch of the Belarusian Radio and Electronics Workers’ Union (REWU) Viktar Kazlou applied to city executive committee to hold a picket against repeal of benefits.

As V. Kazlou told to the BelaPAN, the event can be held on August 9.

“At the last session of the presidium of the trade union a decision was adopted to hold pickets against repeal of benefits in 15 cities and in large industrial centers of the country. In this way we are trying to express protest against repeal of benefits to most unprotected categories of citizens, pensioners, students, disabled persons. I would like to underline that democratic activists in Homel addressed the city executive committee and asked permission for holding pickets against repeal of benefits three times. And three times they were denied permission. I hope that despite of that we shall be given permission for a picket,” V. Kazlou said. According to him, about 50 persons can take part in the action.
