Belarusian KGB detained a «spy» from Russia 18:15, 13/07/2007
“The KGB (State Security Committee) of Belarus has neutralized an espionage network of Polish agents,” Interfax was informed by a KGB source Friday. A criminal action has been brought up against five citizens who had carried out intelligence activities in the interest of Polish intelligence service at the territory of Belarus, the interlocutor of the agency told. There are five suspects, one of them is a citizen of Russia.
According to reports, the criminal action has been brought up under article 356 of the Criminal Code (treason against the fatherland). Giving away a state secret to a foreign state, espionage, assistance to a foreign state in carrying out hostile activities against Belarus by committing crimes against the state intentionally committed by Belarusian citizens in prejudice of external security of ten country, its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security and defense potential.
Article 356 Part 1 provides for an imprisonment for up to 15 years, while Part 2 of the same article (treason connected with a murder) stipulates up to a capital punishment with confiscation of property.
