July 27 Celebration to start on Independence Square 15:31, 17/07/2007
Celebration of July 27 is to start in Minsk with a meeting of deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the 12th convocation, who adopted the State Sovereignty Declaration of the Republic of Belarus in 1990. The deputies are to meet with young activists in Independence Square near Symon and Alena Church (Red Church) at 4 p.m. After that, at 5 p.m., opposition activists are to lay flowers to the monument of Yanka Kupala, and well-known writers and poets are to make speeches and read their works there. At 6 p.m. a concert of well-known Belarusian rock-bands is planned on Bangalore Square. It has been stated today by members of the political council of the United Democratic Forces.
“Bands “Krama”, “Neurodubel”, “Tavarysh Mauzer”, “P.L.A.N.”, “Partyzanskaya Shkola” are to take part in the concert. Besides, a singer-songwriter Kasya Kamotskaya is to sing as well. Other performers are to be defined soon. The specifics of the concert is that its that people who were born after independence of Belarus was announced, after July 27, 1990, are to be presenters of the concert. It is not an action of party leaders. As organizers we appealed for holding the concert, as 17-year-old people do not have a right to organize mass events. But these young people are to appear at the concert and to perform. We all are to hear about the outlook of people who were born in independent Belarus,” told the chairman of the organizing committee on celebration of Independence Day, Viktar Ivashkevich.
A young leader Paval Sevyarynets has also noted that “the basic idea of celebration of the Independence day this year is the idea of “independence generation”. Those who are 17 year old are the future of Belarus. This year celebration is to start on Independence Square, where the Government House is situated, where the Declaration had been adopted. It is extremely important that the event will be held near the Red Church, which underlines the spiritual importance of this holiday. We hope that the young are to become stars of this celebration”.
The Belarusian Popular Front party, the United Civil party, the European Coalition, the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada), and youth organizations have stated that they support the event.
