KGB functions are to be changed, aren’t they?
18:22, 17/07/2007

The fight of clans was given as one of the reasons of chairman of the KGB of Belarus Styapan Sukharenka’s dismissal .That was the viewpoint of leader of the unofficial union of officers –former staff-members of the law enforcement bodies and other power-vested bodies “Defenders of Motherland”, human rights’ activist Aleg Vouchak. ”First the KGB arrests the militia officials than the militia arrests the KGB staff-members. But actually there is no struggle against corruption here”, Aleg Vouchak mentioned.

According to him, there is a certain confrontation between Navumau and Sukharenka. As the human rights’ activist informs, the arrest of the KGB’s sub-colonel was personally demanded by the minister for internal affairs through applying to secretary of the Security Council Viktar Sheiman and Alyaksandr Lukashenka, but he could not arrange the personal meeting with Sukharenka. It was a signal that sooner or later S. Sukharenka would to be dismissed “, Aleg Vouchak mentioned.

According to Aleg Vouchak, another possible reason of Sukharenka’s dismissal is his closer relationship to V.Sheiman. The members of the unofficial union of officers consider that “not only the personnel rotation is expected in the KGB but also changing of its functions. Some rights are to be restricted, others to be expanded”, Aleg Vouchak said.

As far as S. Sukharenka’s future is concerned, Aleg Vouchak supposes that he may be appointed as an ambassador to one of the Asian countries.
