Action of support to Belarussians taken in Moscow 16:20, 17/07/2007
16 July the action of solidarity with victims of political repressions in Belarus was taken in front of the embassy of this country. The picket was arranged by the Belarusian Diaspora in Moscow with participation and support of the “Oborona” (defense) movement.
In the course of the regular monthly action of solidarity the picketers were distributing the leaflets among the passer-bys informing about the disappeared Belarusian politicians and political prisoners –victims of the dictatorship regime of Lukashenka, it is said in the Oborona message of 17 July as quoted by the “PRIMA-News” information agency.
It is mentioned in the text of the leaflet that in the late 90-ies a number of kidnappings and deaths under unidentified circumstances of outstanding Belarusian oppositional policymakers (G.Karpenka, Yu.Zakharenka, V.Ganchar),businessman A.Krasousky and Russian TV operator Z.Zavatsky took place in Belarus. Furthermore, Belarus is the last European country in XXI century which imprisons people for their disagreement with the policy of their government and for active exposure of their disagreements by legal means. The outstanding public figures, i.e., rector of the Belarusian State University A. Kazulin, businessman A.Klimau, youth activists Z.Dashkevich and A.Finkevich are kept in prison, the leaflet runs.
The action organizers demand 1. Immediate release of all the political prisoners 2. Termination of non-governmental organizations and mass media persecution in Belarus 3. Full-value transparent investigation of cases of the outstanding figures disappearance and perishing and punishment of the guilty.
They call the leadership of Russia, President Vladimir Putin and the Federal Assembly of Russia for sharing the requirements of the world public directed against trampling upon democracy in Belarus, violation of human rights in Belarus which have been stressed in many resolutions of the OSCE, Council of Europe and UNO.
