Mikalai Statkevich «Lukashenka is reinforcing his personal security»
17:21, 17/07/2007

“Lukashenka appointed the person whom he trusts and relies upon as Chairman of the KGB. It is not because of his professionalism. Simply Lukashenka is reinforcing his personal security. He is afraid of the power-vested bodies interference into the politics and of the Russian influence on the Belarusian power enforcement bodies”, leader of the Belarusian Socio-Democratic Party (Narodnaya Gramada), first chairman of the Belarusian Union of Military Men , retired sub-colonel Mikalai Statkevich said.

The new applicant for the KGB chairman post, according to Statkevich, will not be confronted by the committee staff members.” Presently there are many newcomers to the KGB. The professional level has decreased. Those are not the same faultless structures as they used to be previously”, Statkevich remarked.

Aleksandr Lukashenka by his orders dismissed Chairman of the Committee of State Security (KGB) Lieutenant General Stsyapan Sukharenka and First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of State Security Major- General Vasil Dzemyantsey.

Major- General of State Security Yuri Zhadobin who previously was the head of the president’s security service has been appointed for the post of the chairman of the committee of state security.
