Was Sukharenka dismissed for his amateurship?
15:57, 19/07/2007

As it has been already officially reported Stsypan Sukharenka was dismissed due to his other appointment.

The Major- General Yuri Zhadobin, former head of the Lukashenka’s personal guard, was appointed for the opened vacancy. This fact makes us think that it was not a simple staff castling, the Belarusian News suggests.

There are several versions of the chief “chekist’s” dismissal .The first and most obvious one is the conflict relationship between the two power enforcement bodies, KGB and Interior Ministry. For the previous several years the parties “exchanged” a number of sound arrests which have been exposed to the public only late in June .The criminal case of the recently detained colonel was investigated by the General Public Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the “Strategiya” analytical center expert Valery Karbalevich, the sound arrests among the “chekists” allow the suggestion that the state authorities started losing control over the KGB activities. Either due to the Sukharenka’s negligence or at his awareness but judging by the latest detainments the State Security Committee (KGB) appeared involved in untypical for such structure games with corruption and criminal protectionism.

Probably, Lukashenka relies on the KGB’s new top figures to eliminate failures and biased actions, committed under Sukharenka. However, Yuri Zhadobin has been already given the first order by the head of the country, that is, to immediately submit his proposals on the KGB staff improvement.
