Russia and Latvia continue to look for settlement of the transit problem, which is reflected in large queues of Lorries on the border between two countries. Yesterday on Thursday 19 July the Russian minister of transport Igor Levitin arrived to Riga for discussing the opportunities of the carrying capacity of the border between two countries.
“Now there are certain problems of the border overloading but together with the Latvian colleagues we are going to solve the problems, the Russian mass media quote the minister.
Recall that the major reason for queues depends on the fact that Latvia unlike Belarus does not charge additional payments for trafficking over its territory that is why the major loads are flowing from the EU to Russia through Latvia. Furthermore, the problem of confiscate has not been completely solved in Belarus, yet. Checkpoints Grebnyovo and Terekhovo do not manage the carrying capacity, the AFN reports.
It is to be mentioned that Russia and Latvia have been discussing the possibility of new checkpoints construction for already a year but nothing has actually changed, yet.
