IX artistic action in the plain air “Legend made of sand” arranged within the framework of support of the campaign for preservation of the architectural heritage of Belarusian cities took place in Hrodna yesterday. The Minsk schoolchildren and university graduates erected the sculpture of Jesus Christ made of sand under the guidance of Henik Loika at the city’s outskirts.
“We were made to act “partisan –like” without coordinating our actions with the authorities. We chose an empty beach at the city’s outskirts. We lived in tents next to the rescue station. 20 people had been working at the sculpture for 2 days. And the people’s efforts resulted in the sculpture of Jesus Christ lying on the Hrodna land and embracing it .The sculpture was 7 times of man’s height. We started the action with the”Ave, Maria”. The Hrodna inhabitants’ response was very friendly”, the plain- air organizer Henik Loika reported to the Charter’97 press-center.
Recall that the department of culture of the Hrodna executive council didn’t allow the plain air to be held near the Kalozhskaya church motivating the refusal by the possible insult of the bielivers’ feelings.
