Foreign ministry of Estonia condemning arrests of Belarusian youth 18:32, 26/07/2007
Foreign minister of Estonia Urmas Paet condemned the arrests of members of the youth oppositional movement “Young Front”, including its leaders Pavel Sevyarinets and Alyaksei Shein, in Belarus, the DELFI reports.
“Here the political detainment and tough violation of human and civil rights is definitely meant “, Paet said. According to him, both the European Union and the USA not once have appealed to the Belarusian authorities for releasing of all the political prisoners and curbing persecutions for political reasons, the press-service of the foreign minister of Estonia informs. Paet considers that the behavior of the Belarusian authorities obviously reveals their fear of the youth movement and the opposition in general. He again calls Belarus for curbing the repressions against oppositional forces. The foreign minister of Estonia stressed that only after releasing of all the political prisoners Belarus will get the possibility of making a dialogue with the European Union. For the last several days around a dozen of the activists of the “Young Front” movement, including its leaders Pavel Sevyarinets and Alyaksei Shein, have been arrested in Belarus under the pretext of illegal distribution of the published matter. The leaflets comprised advertisement of the united democratic opposition actions on the Day of independence of Belarus.
