Destruction of Grodna to be continued

In Grodna the chapel of the late XIX century was ruined at 1 Naidus Street. The roof of the house of the late XIX century was ruined in Uritsky Street. The youth activists of the “Save Grodna from Destruction! ” campaign had been struggling for those buildings.

It is to be mentioned that one of the leaders of the democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich sent a letter to the UNESCO and other international organizations on preservation of the cultural legacy as well as to the heads of governments of the EU countries and deputies of the Europarliament calling for prevention of destruction of the Grodna historical architectural legacy. The same appeal was sent to the UNESCO by the deputies of the European Parliament , milinkevich.org reports.
Grodna historical part reconstruction was started by the city authorities in 2005.Since then over 20 buildings of the late XIX- early XX centuries have disappeared from the historical map. The historical layout of the Savetskaya Square, the archeological layers were destroyed. In compliance with the decision of the city authorities admitted by the ministry of culture of the Republic of Belarus over 70 buildings of the XVIII-XX century are to be dismantled in the historical part in the near future.
