13:56, 07/08/2007

Members of the Iranian legislature`s working group for cooperation with Belarusian National Assembly discussed issues concerning economic cooperation at a meeting with Belarusian lawmakers at a meeting in Minsk on August 6.

Anatol Pawlovich, a member of the Belarusian House of Representatives` working group for cooperation with Iran, told reporters following the meeting that the Iranian side had proposed discussing specific proposals, in particular cooperation in the construction of cement plants in Belarus, the joint assembling of Belarusian tractors and dump trucks in Iran, and cooperation in the energy sphere.

"At present, Belarusian-Iranian annual trade amounts to $50 million and we plan to increase it tenfold within five years," Mr. Pawlovich said.

According to him, the Belarusian lawmakers were interested to know Iran`s regulations concerning renewable sources of energy and nuclear power generation.

Seyyed Mohammad Mehdi Shahrokhi, a member of the Iranian Majles` working group for cooperation with Belarus` National Assembly, said that both the state and private industrial sectors of Iran are interested in developing economic relations with Belarus. "Iran is a big country that possesses a great economic potential," he said. "We intend to establish very close cooperation with Belarus."
