Sick and tired of living in darkness
12:04, 08/08/2007

7August in the central square of Smalyavichi town (Minsk region) opposite its district executive council the “Where is Light?”Action was taken. It is to be mentioned that the Smalyavichi’s local authorities decided to implement the directive #3 “On being thrifty and economical” to their liking and it has been the third month since the street lamps were switched off in the town.

The Young Front, The BNF Youth, the Jeans for Freedom activists and unattached youth of Smalyavichi participated in the action. The question “Where is Light?” was made of several dozen lighted candles. 60 people participated in the action. Together with the passersby there were around 100 people there. Thus the youth tries to attract the attention to the problem of dark streets.
The action took 30 minutes. Even after the militia’s arrival the action had not stopped .Nobody was detained because the militia was probably interested in the light to appear in the streets of the town at night for improving the criminal situation.
