At the General Public Prosecutor’s office the fact of searching the “Euroset” company offices on the charges with smuggling preferred against the company was confirmed to the Interfax.” The searches of the company have been really committed”, the official representative of the General Public Prosecutor’s office declared to the Interfax on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday the Interfax sources in the law enforcement bodies reported on the searches being committed in ten places including the apartments of top-managers of the company, particularly, of one of the company’s vice-presidents and of the head of the company’s security service.
Previously, the interior ministry of the Russian Federation informed that 29 March 2006 in the course of a joint special operation the interior ministry and the federal security bureau of Russia the shipment of 167.5 thousand mobile phones from Pakistan was arrested at the Sheremetievo-2 airport. The arrested batch cost around USD 20 million. The shipment was designated for the “Euroset” company. The shipment inspection found out that the majority of mobile phones from the batch did not comply with the Russian mobile network standards.
20 April 2006 the criminal case was brought on the charges with smuggling and safety measures violation.
According to the interior ministry, the phones from the shipment were produced in Brazil, China and Singapore and didn’t meet the Russian requirements. The experts’ examination of the confiscated Motorola C-115 phones showed that the level of radio emission of the handsets 2.5 times exceeded the standard level.
The American Motorola, on its side, officially declared that its output fully complied with the quality and technological standards established in Russia.
The “Euroset” company refused to comment on the searches.
The “Euroset” company owns an extended chain of shops in Russia. The company sells phones, digital photo cameras and other devices .It is also engaged in commutation services. The company’s chain covers Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Moldavia and Armenia. In 2006 the “Euroset” company’s proceeds grew by 46% thus amounting to USD 3 billion.
The company is a joint property of Evheny Chichvarkin and Timur Artemiev.
