Public prosecutors not responding to militia’s violence :: Charter'97 :: News

The militiamen who broke the arm of the Young Democrats’ activist Alyaksandr Shumkevich have not but been punished, yet. Over a fortnight passed since the claim for health damage caused by the militiamen had been lodged but it gave no results but the redirection of the claim to the public prosecutors’ office of the Leninsky district of Hrodna. According to Alyaksandr Shumkevich, he hasn’t got any information about his case, and the results of investigation, if any, may be only supposed.

It is to be mentioned that 28 July at the concert of the “ Okean Elsi” group in Hrodna Alyaksandr pulled out the white-red-white flag ; after that the” law and order watchdogs” ran up to him, gave him severe beating and broke his arm. First, he was refused of any medical assistance and only 12 years after the incident the doctor was sent for who then insisted on Alyaksandr Shumkevich being taken to the hospital, the press-service of the United Civil Party reports.

The case got a wide public response but the official representatives of the interior ministry are still keeping silent as well as the Hrodna public prosecutor E.Burak who was ordered to investigate the incident.
