Mikita Sasim specifying his detainment :: Charter'97 :: News

Youth activist Mikita Sasim was brought to the Minsk Central district court .The Charter’97 press-center managed to have a phone talk with the activist. ”I was detained by several plainclothes people whose bodybuilding resembled that of the OMON (special militia division).I was seized, my arms twisted and forced into the car. They behaved extremely roughly-they tore my shirt, struck me against the back and legs threatening me with a beating”, the activist said.

According to Sasim, straight after the detainment he was taken to the cell at the Minsk Central district department of the interior where he wasn’t interrogated. Only today he was shown the report on his detainment- the activist is charged with minor disorderly conduct: swearing in public. This administrative article is widely used by the Belarusian militia for justification of the politically motivated arrests .The youth activist is supposed to be sentenced to 15 nights in prison.

It is to be mentioned that at the central district department of the interior they assured that Sasim was not among the detained .Thus the militia lied not only to the human rights’ activists and journalists but to the relatives of the detained.

The detainment of Sasim looked like kidnapping .He was captured by the unknown people in plain clothes who didn’t show their documents. Then he was forced to the car and taken to nowhere. Such gangster like attacks at the opposition have become oftener of late. It seems strange that such actions have not been paid any attention to by the European public, yet.
