Mikita Sasim to be sued today
10:20, 17/08/2007

Today’s morning the press center of the Charter’97 has become aware of the location of youth activist Mikita Sasim. The Minsk central district department of the interior has at last admitted that the activist is there. Today Sasim is to be sued but the militia officials have refused to speak of the charges.

The youth activist Mikita Sasim was detained 16 August on the Day of Belarusian Solidarity by the unidentified persons in civilian clothes. He was caught at 9.30 p.m. at the “Moscow “cinema and taken away in the “UAZ” car with a plate number 9215 EE70. When the leader was being detained the persons in civil clothes, supposedly the secret service or OMON (special regiment) staff members, were beating up other youth activists .Thus as the witnesses evidenced, Tatsyana Tishkevich who tried to help Mikita Sasim, first, was knocked down and then they struck her with their feet. The emergency was sent for and the girl was taken to the hospital #9.

Mikita Sasim participated in one of the solidarity actions which took place in Minsk yesterday. Together with dozens of activists he came to the Catholic Church of St. Joseph to pray for the temple to be returned to the Catholic congregation. The Minsk authorities are known to order rebuilding of the church into the fashionable hotel. But the young people could not make a prayer as they were forced out of the place by the militiamen. At that time nobody was detained. Sasim’s detainment happened half an hour after the action.
