Fascist threatening to do away with the opposition activists
17:42, 20/08/2007

Activists of the Vitebsk city organization of the CCP-BNF got threatening letters sent by the fascists. That was reported to the journalists by the oppositionist and distributor of the non-state-owned press Baris Khamaida.

According to him, four people, Baris Khamaida being among them together with Ian Dzyarzhautsau, Syargei Kavalenka and Ian Talpiga got the letters. They were sent to the home addresses of the party activists. It is worth mentioning that the unidentified persons calling themselves members of the so-called “Russian National Unity “name every addressee Miron.

It is well-known that periodically, once or twice a month, in different locations of Vitebsk the unknown people install the white-red-white flags leaving a message signed by Miron. Usually it happens on the eve of various celebrations associated with the Belarusian national revival .

“Those threats will never stop true Miron because that is the legendary elusive figure, a collective image of the hero fighting for independence and freedom. That is why white –red-white flags will continue appearing as they used to and not only in Vitebsk but in other cities of Belarus”, Baris Khamaida considers.

According to him, only one of the threatened activists is going to apply to the militia. The others considered that useless. The threatening letters were received from the fascists by the independent newspaper Vitebsky Kurier, activist of the UCP city organization Elena Zalesskaya and employee of the Yakub Kolas drama theatre Victoria Dashkevich. They submitted their applications but it gave no results. The authors of the threat were never found and the claimants received formal noncommittal replies.
