When you are at home… action in Minsk 16:58, 24/08/2007
The action of protest against illegal detainments and beatings of the youth opposition activists was taken yesterday at the crossroads of Nyamiga Street and Garadsky Val Street in the center of Minsk. 20 people installed the street banner “When you are at home they are beating up girls” and the posters running about the events of 16 August.
That day the special militia regiment forcedly dispersed the action of solidarity with political prisoners and severely beat some of its participants. An activist of the “Jeans - For Freedom!” public campaign Tanya Tishkevich is still in hospital N9 in Minsk. The inflammation process in kidneys started after the girl had been beaten up.
Within 15 minutes the action participants distributed around a hundred leaflets dwelling on the 16 August events and calling for stopping the gangster-like attacks on the Minskovites.
